Q: Can I Bring my Dog?
It is the policy of The Lodge not to allow dogs.
Unfortunately there are enough people who are allergic to them and they leave their calling cards on everything.
Q: Is Altoona Ridge Lodge Wheelchair Accessible?
Due to the access, the terrain, the weather and the size of the buildings, it is not recommended that wheel chairs attempt an overnight stay at The Lodge.
Q: What Kind of Terrain Should I Expect?
The terrain is very uneven, it is natural, we have worked very hard to have as little of an impact on the area as possible. The scars left by the Miners over 100 years ago is a testament to how fragile the Earth is, how long a mark will last, and how slowly the environment at 8000' and above recuperates from the activities.
Q: How Physically Fit Should I be?
It is very important to be very conscious about ones fitness level when coming to The Lodge.
Remember: it is a long way to the next town where help is available.
We need to know all your medical needs and allergies.
It is very dry in Montana and even more so at 8000' altitude.
The Lodge sits at 8000' and the majority of the activities that we will be doing here will occur above this altitude.
It is best to be prepared for this and take the time before getting here to hydrate well and stretch daily.
Establishing a daily fitness routine can be very beneficial to making your stay even better.
Q: What Types of Food Will I/We be Eating?
On guided trips all foods are furnished as part of your package.
There will be family style meals and plenty of snacks and fruits around during the days to keep very satiated.
Q: What Types of Snacks are Available?
While you may bring in your own snacks, there is always a multitude of snacks readily on hand at the Lodge.
Q: What Should I Bring?
See "What to Bring Downloadable List" at bottom of page.
Q: What About the Sun? Should I Bring Sunscreen?
Yes!
The Lodge sits at 8000' and the sun is very intense here. You will burn, so please be prepared and bring a hat,
long sleeved shirts and sunscreen.
Q: Does the High Altitude Make a Difference in How I Feel While at the Lodge?
Yes! It certainly can!
Being at 8000' latitude - and higher - can be a cause for Altitude Sickness.
This is a very fast way to end your vacation.
A little attention will take care of this.
Get plenty of sleep before coming, stay well hydrated before getting here and while here.
Take your time while here, and let your guide know if you need to rest ...he probably wants to, too.

and that all customers will walk in and out by either snowshoes or skis under their own guidance.
